Law Review Associates Win Big at Moot Court Nationals

 

       

The Law Center fielded 2 teams to this year’s Admiralty Law Moot Court Competition, which was held in Seattle, WA. Senior Associate and SBA President Sara Kuebel’s team was named the 2018 National Champions and also won the competition’s Best Brief award! Additionally, Junior Associate Josie Serigne’s team advanced to the Quarterfinals, and Josie Serigne was ranked as the 13th highest oral advocate overall at the competition. LSU Law has won 3 of the last 4 national championships at the Admiralty competition! Both Sara and Josie have been selected for publication in the Louisiana Law Review for articles concerning Admiralty issues. Sara’s article, Doing Aweigh with Uncertainty: Navigating Jones Act Seamen’s Claims Against Third Parties, is set for publication in Issue 3 of Volume 78 of the Louisiana Law Review. Josie’s article,  Don’t Rock the Boat: Developing a Uniform System of Maritime Punitive Damages After Baker and Townsendis set for publication in Volume 79 of the Louisiana Law Review. Junior Associate Max Roberts participated in the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition’s North American regional rounds, which were held in Washington, DC. Max Roberts’ team was named the 2018 North American competition champions, and they also took home the award for Best New Team! The team now advances to the World Championships of the Space Law moot court, which will be held in October 2018 in Bremen, Germany where the team will face the winners of the European, Asian-Pacific, and African rounds of the competition. Congratulations Max!
